Fuel tanker explosion kills Two, burns 47 vehicles on Lagos Expressway

A 33,000 litres fully loaded tanker has exploded on an expressway connecting Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, to other parts of the country.

The explosion, which occured around 12:47 am Saturday on the Kara bridge of the popular Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Platforms Africa gathered, killed and burnt corpses of the tanker driver and his motor-boy beyond recognition.

The bridge is notorious for accident. It has witnessed several of such in recent times.

“The petrol-laden truck crashed, caught fire and exploded at about 12:47am this morning,” a motorist who simply identified himself ad Taiye told Platforms Africa.

“The accident became so worsened when two Dangote Trucks, several other trucks and vehicles on full speed lost control and began to ram into the resulting fire,” he added.

Among the vehicles burnt were two trucks owned by Dangote Industries Limited and second-hand imported cars, popularly known as Tokunbo, which were in a car mart close to the scene of the accident.

As at press time, trucks of the Federal Road Safety Corps had arrived at the accident scene.

However, there has been little progress as at press time, with traffic having built up well into Lagos State and from the Ogun State end of the expressway into Lagos.
